How dark can you tint in Florida?
Florida measures tint by how much light gets through the glass and film together. The limits depend on the window and on the kind of vehicle.
Cars and sedans have one set of rules for the rear windows; SUVs, trucks and vans — multipurpose vehicles — can go darker behind the driver.
Tint is measured with a light meter held against the glass. It reads how much light gets through the glass and the film together, so glass that is already tinted from the factory needs a lighter film to stay legal.

- Windshield Strip above the AS-1 line
- Front side windows 28% or lighter
- Rear side windows 15% on cars · 6% on SUVs, trucks and vans
- Back glass 15% on cars · 6% on SUVs, trucks and vans

Medical exemptions
Florida lets people with certain medical conditions run darker film than these limits with an exemption from the state. Ask your doctor and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles about it before you choose a darker shade.
